Do you know what you could not do four years ago? Get anything from Shipt.
Four years and 550 million dollars later, the sale of Shipt is a huge win for Birmingham. Congratulations to Bill Smith and all the people involved. What this shows Birmingham, and the Birmingham entrepreneurial community, is that it can be done. The exponential growth of venture capital can, and does, create huge wealth gain.
This gain flows back into the city, providing an effective network of entrepreneurs, investors and operators who can compound the success with their own ventures.
The singular focus of Shipt – providing a platform where people have groceries delivered in tertiary markets – seems simple in retrospect, but perplexed many and created a fair helping of naysayers. Now, it astounds the critics. But kudos -- it is a win for Shipt and a win for Birmingham.
