Congratulations To Shipt

Do you know what you could not do four years ago? Get anything from Shipt.

Four years and 550 million dollars later, the sale of Shipt is a huge win for Birmingham. Congratulations to Bill Smith and all the people involved. What this shows Birmingham, and the Birmingham entrepreneurial community, is that it can be done. The exponential growth of venture capital can, and does, create huge wealth gain.

This gain flows back into the city, providing an effective network of entrepreneurs, investors and operators who can compound the success with their own ventures.

The singular focus of Shipt – providing a platform where people have groceries delivered in tertiary markets – seems simple in retrospect, but perplexed many and created a fair helping of naysayers. Now, it astounds the critics. But kudos -- it is a win for Shipt and a win for Birmingham.

Go Birmingham.

Meaningful Meetings

Meaningful Meetings

Here at Spruce we are constantly trying to help build great teams and great organizations. Being effective and efficient is usually easier as an individual than as a team, but here is the great paradox - you need teams to win. Whether it is business or a sport, you need a great team to succeed. Additionally, from time to time you need to have a meeting. You all have to be together in the same room. From the amount of grumbling, you would think meeting is a four letter word.

Spruce Luncheon: Q & A

Spruce Luncheon: Q & A

Spruce Luncheon: Q & ARecently, our Spruce team organized a small luncheon presentation and open forum for local business and organization leaders. Spruce founders and developers demonstrated the various uses of the Meetings and Directory applications, elaborated on recent updates and bug fixes leading up to the official launch of Spruce as well as answered pertinent questions and concerns from an engaged audience. Below are some of the questions that were answered by our team.

Spruce Helps Bottle & Bone

Spruce Helps Bottle & Bone

For those of you in Birmingham, hopefully you have been by the new Bottle & Bone butcher pub (in uptown). If not, hopefully you will go by and see this fantastic new place. Go by for lunch, get a great sandwich and pick up some great steaks and a bottle of wine to grill that evening. Go by in the evening, get a flight of bacon and try some delicious beer … and get some good meat to grill the next day. It is a new and novel concept for Birmingham and the city is fortunate to have it.

Behind the Wall

So what does Spruce do? What can I do with Spruce? We hear these questions a lot, and because Spruce does a lot, it is hard to answer. Simply put, Spruce can do a lot of the voodoo you want to do. Not sure what precisely is the voodoo that you want to do- maybe a quick tour behind the wall will help free up some mental juice.

First, you need to sign up- go to www.getspruceapps.com and click on "Join Now" to the page that looks like this. Call me 205-383-1811 if it does not work for you; I am happy to walk you through it.
